The first step to accessing mental healthcare through NYU Langone’s Child Study Center is to schedule an intake screening call with one of our care management coordinators.
Intake Screening Call
An intake screening call is the first step in connecting with mental healthcare for yourself or your child.
The intake screening call is for parents or guardians looking for mental health services for their child, or for young adults who want to schedule care for themselves. During the intake call, which takes about 15 minutes, your care management coordinator will ask you questions about your child, or you, and the reason for seeking care. These are some of the topics that might be covered:
We suggest that you be in a quiet, private space for this phone call. If you are calling on behalf of a young adult, please ensure they are also available during this call.
Intake appointment scheduling takes place through our Schedule an Appointment webpage. If you are interested in scheduling with a specific Child Study Center provider, you can find the locations where they practice on their provider profile page. You do not need to have a specific provider selected before scheduling your intake call; one of our intake coordinators will guide you through the process and services available that best match your needs.
To schedule an appointment, follow these steps:
You will see a confirmation screen after clicking the “Schedule Appointment” button. The requestor will receive a confirmation email.
After the call, the patient will receive digital forms to complete to help us better understand your treatment needs. Using the answers on those forms, we work to match you with an appropriate Child Study Center provider. Parents or guardians who are scheduling for a minor will need to create their own NYU Langone Health MyChart account and request proxy access to their child’s account.
Once you have completed the intake process and have been assigned a Child Study Center provider, the care management coordinator schedules your appointment for an evaluation. A comprehensive evaluation is critical to properly guide care. During the evaluation, we learn about your child and family and collaborate with you to create a plan of care. Appointments are available both in person and through video visits.
The Child Study Center is largely an out-of-network and self-pay practice, and we do not participate in any commercial insurance plans.
Self-pay patients pay at the time of service and can submit to their insurance for reimbursement.
The Child Study Center partners with a select number of specialized employee plans from NYU Langone Health, NYU, American Express, BlackRock, Paramount, and Simon & Schuster. We can accept these plans for patients who are subscribed to the in-network plan as their primary plan.
Before your appointment, it’s a good idea to verify coordination of benefits and confirm with your insurance company that the service being sought is covered by your insurance. For patients enrolled in any of our participating plans, you are expected to pay any balances defined as the patient’s responsibility. This includes any copayments, deductibles, coinsurances, or any services that are not covered.
