As medical science advances and as the population ages, many individuals with complex medical histories are able to seek dental treatment in private dental facilities. As a result, dentists must be ready to provide such patients with competent, efficient and safe dental care by analyzing the patient’s current medications and medical condition. This information should be made available to the pharmacology of the dentistry medications and in the dentists’ knowledge of dental procedures. One of the commonly use procedure in dental clinic is the injection of a local anesthetic solution. Due to availability of many individuals with cardiovascular problems and pulmonary hypertension Budenz (2000) indicates that dentists should take patient complete medical history before administering any medication (Budenz A, 2000). In addition to this, the dentists need to consult with the patient physician in order to understand the current medication the patient is using. For this reason, a dentists before treating a patient with a cardiovascular or hypertension problem should address two basic concerns; medications being used by the patient which may interact with the used local anesthetic agent and the existing cardiovascular or systemic disease that may be made worse by the used local anesthetic

There are several cardiovascular interventions that need special considerations in the provision of treatments within the scope of endodontics. If these interventions are not carefully identified, diagnosed, and considered in the overall treatment plan for the patient, they may result in fatal conditions. These include hypertension that causes fatal cardiac disorders, such as angina pectoris, ischemic heart diseases, and myocardial infarction, and also cerebrovascular diseases; congestive heart failure; infective endocarditis, valvular diseases, and carrying pacemakers; and the use of antiplatelet and anticoagulant drugs that are commonly prescribed for patients who have experienced heart stroke. The aim of this article is to review the newest recommendations for patients with these disorders who require endodontic treatments.
